February Spending

I can't believe it's the end of February already! Crazy how fast the year is going so far. But that means it's time to link up with Fran and the other budgeting bloggers to share what we bought for the month. I'll be honest, I had many the opportunity to go shopping or getting something on sale, but I did pretty good this month if I do say so myself :)




1. Earrings- the ones I got are actually a Marsala color (Old Navy) $6.96 

2. Striped Terry-Fleece Dress (Old Navy) $17.47

Total = $24.23! (Way under my $40 budget!)


I've seen so many other bloggers style Old Navy's fit and flare dresses and look fabulous in them that I finally decided to try one out for myself and I love it! This silhouette is super flattering, especially for those of us with more of a pear shape, and it's definitely something I'll be able to wear into the warmer weather as well.

I've also been seeing these pretty large stone earrings all over the place, but I really didn't want to pay the full price for them. I'll take these $7 knock-offs any day! Much more budget friendly :)

Firmoo Review

When I was a kid, I always wanted glasses. I would even go as far as drawing glasses on myself whenever I would draw a picture of myself :) Well, finally in 4th grade I got glasses for reading to try to help with my headaches. I was so excited! I had reading glasses for several years until my junior year of college. I started noticing my vision going blurry when I was driving, and I ended up needing glasses all the time. (and every year my vision continues to get worse...) Now I mostly wear contacts, but I usually like to give my eyes a break on the weekend. Needless to say, I was very excited to get contacted by Firmoo to try out one of their glasses! 

Firmoo is an online company where you can order prescription and nonprescription glasses. You can pick the frames you want (and even upload your picture to virtually try them on!), fill in your prescription, and they are shipped to you within a couple of weeks! I have two other pairs of glasses currently that are black, so I knew that I wanted to get something a little different, so I went with a burgundy color in a style similar to another pair I have now. Ordering them was super easy and super quick and they arrived at my door within a week and a half! That's almost faster than ordering them at my eye clinic! As an added plus, if you are a new customer and place an order, you can get 50% off your frames! That's a good deal in my book :)

February Ipsy Bag

I've been getting the Ipsy glam bags for a few months now. They are $10 a month and you get a cute makeup bag with 5 products to try- sometimes they are full-size and sometimes they are travel-size. Here's what I got for February in this cute pink, diamond print bag:


1. Luxie Beauty: Large Angled Face Brush 504
I always love getting brushes in my bag! This one is a pretty pink color and very soft. I've been using it for my blush and puts the product on with great coverage! Definitely a winner :)

2. ModelCo: Blush Cheek Powder in Cosmopolitan 01
At first, I thought this color might be too light for my skin tone, but it gives a pretty glow, especially against my white winter skin :) I didn't need too much of the product to get the color I was looking for, and I was needing a new blush anyway so that's a win!

3. Cargo Cosmetics: Mini Lip Gloss in Anguilla
I'm not really a lip gloss or lipstick girl. I much prefer balms or chapstick or something. This shade of pink was way to light for my skin tone, so I'll probably end up giving this away.

4. 'Tini Beauty: Rob Scheppy for 'Tini Beauty Eyeshadow in Pearl Fizz
I am all about the neutral colors for eye shadow. This shadow is a pretty, neutral shade and works well as a base for layering darker colors on top of. The size also makes it perfect for throwing in a makeup bag or bringing when you travel.

5. Hey Honey: Take It Off! Exfoliating Honey Peel Off Mask
I have never used a peel off mask before, but I've heard good things about it and was excited to try it. I put it on my face, let it dry for awhile, then attempted to peel it off. Um, let me tell you that thing was a b**** to take off... I'm not sure if I didn't use enough or what, but I could only get tiny bits to peel off at a time and just took forever. I finally got frustrated and washed the rest off. I think next time I try it, I may try using more on my face? Does anyone have recommendations for these peel off masks? At least it left my face super soft and smooth, so that's a plus!

You guys, I wish it were Spring or Summer because then I can start taking pics outside again! I'm not a fan of the quality of these indoor pictures... which could be the reason I liked this outfit so much better in person than looking at it now!

But anyway, this cardigan is something that has been neglected more often than not. Actually, I'm pretty sure the last time I wore this was in July when we went up to Canada for the weekend. I've really been trying lately (not always succeeding...) to wear pieces that I haven't worn in awhile, to see if it's something worth keeping or something I need to get rid of. I do love this cardigan and this is the only brown cardigan I have, but I just find it hard to style! A lot my dress pants are either black or gray, so I usually can't wear it with those for work, so I decided maroon (marsala?) would be a good choice :) The rest kind of came together on its own after that.

Ways to start getting healthy + Giveaway!

I'm sure many of you had a New Year's resolution of being healthier, eating better, going to the gym more, or loosing weight. I'm sure you were super diligent about this resolution for the first couple weeks in January, then kind of tapered off until we find, here in the 3rd week in February, that it's just a distant memory. I'm no exception! Well, today I'm going to share with you 5 tips to help get your butt in gear and start on the path to getting healthy! (I know they help me!)





1. Stay hydrated
I feel like every day, there is new information that comes out as to how much water you should drink a day. 8 glasses, 1/2-1oz per pound you weigh, etc. It can be hard to get this much water in a day! I know I struggle more so on the weekends than the weekdays, but drinking water has so many benefits! It can help speed up your metabolism, curb your appetite, help with skin tone, etc. Especially if you're working out, you need to replenish the water lost by sweating so you don't get dehydrated. 

There are a few tricks I use to help me drink more: drink out of a straw, get a pretty water bottle, make sure I have 2 water bottles filled and ready to go in the morning, and adding fruit or essential oils. I recently got this water bottle from Target. It's made of glass, so I can add a drop or two of my favorite citrus essential oils and have lemon or orange water ready to go! I know for some they can't stand the taste of water, so infusing it with fruit can be a great way to drink more!




2. Use a fitness tracker
Hubby and I got Fitbits for our first anniversary almost 2 years ago and it's definitely one purchase I don't regret making! They not only track steps taken, but also count flights of stairs, calories burned, distance traveled, and it tracks your sleep! You can sync it to your phone or computer to see all your stats laid out and even compare it to your friends! It's definitely interesting and eye opening to see how many steps (or lack there of) I take in a day. To compare, on a typical workday in the winter I sometimes average as little as 2500 steps a day, but when hubby and I were in Disney World, we were getting between 20k - 25k steps a day! Crazy! I know I can definitely do better in getting more steps a day, but at least this can be a reminder to get up and move a little bit during the day!




3. Have an accountability partner
Honestly, I think this is the most important on this list! Hubby and I have started going to the gym together, and I can definitely see differences in my workout intensity when he comes with me rather than me going alone. An accountability partner is someone that will help you stay focused and work towards your goals. It is possible to do it alone, but so much more success can be had when you have someone motivating you! My girlfriends and I also have a group on Facebook where we talk about working out and eating right- our successes as well as our failures! That way we can celebrate our achievements as well as motivate each other to get back on track! 

4. Fuel your workout
Haha, I'm probably the last person who should be giving advice in this category, but it's definitely true that you need to eat the right foods to have the energy to get a good workout as well as being healthier overall! A big trend lately are the whole food diets- diets in which you cut out all processed foods, alcohol, grains, and dairy, and eat a natural plant and animal-based diet. I'll be honest, I don't think I could commit to that for an entire month (I love my cheese!) but I've seen so many success stories from others that have tried it! I have been trying lately to cut out processed foods from my diet (not 100% successful...) and cooking whole food meals at least once a week. Today is also the start of Lent, and for Catholics that traditionally means giving something up (or adding something positive) for 40 days. I decided to give up treats. Ever since the Christmas holidays, I've just fallen off the deep end with sweets. Hopefully giving them up will help my energy levels and maybe I'll even loose a few pounds :)

5. Wear the right (and cute!) gear
There is just something about new workout gear- just makes you WANT to go to the gym to show it off! :) I recently went to Gordmans to purchase some new workout clothes. (That store is definitely a place I could spend hours looking at everything!) I'd actually never looked in their fitness section before, but I was impressed with their selection of workout clothing! I also happened to go there on a day where they had an additional 20 or 30% (I can't remember which) off of clearance items, so I scored most of this outfit for next to nothing! The pants and the sweatshirt were about $4 each! Can't beat those prices :)

My new leopard print cardigan from Target! It was in their clearance section and I grabbed it when Cartwheel had their 20% off clearance deal, so I scored it for about $9! I've already worn it 4 times, so I think the cost-per-wear will be pretty low for this number!







Reading...
I have been reading like crazy lately! My goal for 2015 originally was to read 25 books, but I'm already on my 5th book of the year, so I upped it to 30 (and I'll probably raise it again). Currently, I'm reading "We Bought A Zoo" (which so far isn't really like the movie) and I have two books on hold at the library, "Orphan Train" and "One More Thing." 





Pinning...
Whenever I go on Pinterest, it's usually to look up something specific, and I'll end up pinning a whole bunch of pins for the same thing! For example, the other weekend I wanted to make a Valentine's wreath for my mantle, so I pinned 5-10 wreath pictures, then walked around JoAnn's while mulling over which one to recreate. Eating...
Um, I just ate a mini bag of skittles? haha I will be having some leftovers for lunch soon of pesto chicken, roasted sweet potatoes, and green beans. Yum!

Anticipating...
Hmm, I don't think there's specifically anything I'm anticipating. I am excited for Valentine's Day because we are going to dinner at PF Changs! Yummm :) Hopefully we can actually make it out this year! Last year I got a terrible migraine and was in bed all day :( Not the most fun V-Day we've ever had, but it is what it is!

Pinspired: Stripes and Leopard

Hello ladies! I hope you all had a good weekend! Can you believe it's already February? One of my goals for the New Year has been to take more full advantage of my closet- make sure I really use what I have, purge what I don't really use, etc. I'm planning on doing a closet purge soon, but for what I currently own, Pinterest has really been helpful for seeing my clothes in new ways. I haven't worn this leopard top since probably last year and wanted to find a new way to wear it and I really like how this turned out! I was actually going to wear my ankle pants and flats with it, but I got too cold just looking at them :) Maybe I'll try it again when it warms up!
