August Spending

I'm still having a hard time believing it's the end of August already! The summer flew by way too fast! The end of the month means it's time to link up with Fran and the other budgeting bloggers to share what we spent for the month.

I've been doing this for a few months, but I don't think I ever shared what I actually budget for clothes. We specifically budget $40 each for hubby and I for clothes a month. This may not seem like much at all, but we also each have a $40 'slush' amount each month that we can use for whatever we want. Most of the time, I will choose to spend this on clothes or jewelry, so actually my monthly budget can be up to $80. This still may not seem like a lot to some (and honestly it can get away from me some months!), but I really do my best to shop sales, clearance racks, and thrift stores, so I can really make this amount stretch!

1. Kendra Scott inspired black necklace (Purple Paridot): $16.98
2. Kendra Scott inspired pink necklace (Instagram shop) : $20
3. Gold Cleo necklace (GroopDealz): $10.98
4. Gold leaf necklace (Thrifted): $2.38 [actually got this at the end of July]
5. Red dot necklace (Old Navy): $0.00 [free for being a card holder]
6. Utility vest (Old Navy): $23.95
7. Kensie girl sandals (Thrifted): $3.25 [also got at the end of July]

Total = $77.54 (actually only spent $71.91 in August)

This is under my $80 budget, so I'm happy with that. I was definitely on a jewelry kick this month! I've had my eye on the Kendra Scott necklaces for awhile now, but there's no way I can justify the $80 price tag. So I was excited to learn of other places that sell inspiration necklaces for way cheaper! I am still waiting for them to come in the mail, but I know they will go with just about everything in my closet!

Also, this vest? 'Nuf said. I'm so happy I finally found one in my size in a store near me! So many bloggers out there are styling them in such cute ways for all 4 seasons. I'm excited to transition this into fall and winter! If you are on the fence about getting one, I'll make up your mind for you. Do it!! They go with everything! Although I find they do sell out quickly, so hopefully more places will carry them for the upcoming season!

How did you do with your August budget?

Vests and Fur

No, I'm not wearing any fur, but my fur baby, Zoe, is hanging out in the background of some of these pictures (a far better deal than tearing around the yard like she normally does when we take outfit pictures outside). Also, sorry for the larger amount of pictures. Hubby took a bunch that day and I couldn't decide which ones I liked the best :)

Shorts: Old Navy
Shirt: Thrifted via Clothes Mentor
Vest: Old Navy
Sandals: Thrifted via Turn Style
Necklace: Edith Marie Jewelry

I wore this outfit over the weekend for running errands, hanging around the house, and going to a movie. Has anyone seen "How to Train Your Dragon 2"? We saw it at a theater near us that has played movies that have been out for awhile. I think I may have actually liked it better than the original!

Okay, in the picture above, does it look like my elbow is hyper-extended towards the front to anyone else? And Zoe's face looks to be in mid-sneeze haha :)

All in all, this was a pretty comfortable outfit, although I haven't quite worn my sandals enough and got some pretty wicked blisters on my feet. They are some new ones I got from thrifting at the end of last month that I will put in my August spending post at the end of the week! (I still can't believe it's the end of August already...)

Weekend Wears

Yikes, the bags under my eyes... anyway this was an outfit I wore to church on Sunday that was kind of a work in progress. I picked my capris, then went through a couple different shirts, then a couple necklaces, then decided something was missing, so I added the cardigan for a bit of dimension. It was a steamy day outside, but nice and cool inside with the AC, so the cardigan worked perfectly.

I also played around with different backgrounds for my pictures, so here you can see the blue we just painted on our house!

 Capris: Target
Tee: The Limited
Cardigan: Target
Sandals: JC Penney
Necklace: Farmer's Market

I'm not sure if I've worn these sandals for my blog or not. I got them just before our wedding a couple years ago from JC Penney. I've pretty much worn them out the past couple years, and they are starting to fall apart! For a situation that doesn't involve much walking, they are okay, but will probably have to be retired before too long :(

Yeah, not really sure what's going on with the lines in my shirt either... oh well. Just keeping it real y'all. (Like I just said y'all. To be more geographically appropriate, I should have said 'you guys, don cha know.)

This is probably one of the more under-utilized pieces in my closet, but when Bri announced that the Third Thursday Threads was the LBD, I knew I should pull this out again... even though I'm posting this on a Monday instead of Thursday (technically I did wear this last Thursday). Oh well. Some day I'll get on schedule with blogging :)

Dress: New York and Co.
Cardigan: New York and Co.
Shoes: Payless
Necklace: Edith Marie Jewelry

I got this dress almost 4 years ago now, but it was during a buy one get one 50% off sale, plus I had another coupon or discount, so this dress ended up being around $9! Can't beat that price! It's supposed to be cooler later this week, so I'm planning on wearing it with my chambray underneath. I don't know how it will turn out, but we will see!

Did you all have a good weekend? Ours kept us busy. I got some cleaning and laundry done, we went to the movies and watched a couple at home, we (hubby mostly) finished a cement project on my parent's driveway, we went thrifting and I walked out empty-handed! I'm really looking forward to this next three-day weekend though. We are planning on going to the State Fair and I'm super excited!

This is the first time wearing this dress on my blog, but I wore this cardigan one other time here. I don't know why, but I have a hard time wearing 3/4 sleeve tops and cardigans. I feel like it doesn't keep me warm enough in the winter and colder-weather months, but it's too hot to wear in the summer. Does anyone else have this problem or am I the only one?

Teal and Neutrals for Work

 Top: ThredUp
Cardigan: Target
Capris: The Limited
Shoes: Payless
Earrings: Target (gift)

I really haven't been that creative in my outfits lately. Sometimes I'll try to plan a week's worth of outfits the weekend before, but lately I've just been throwing on the first thing I pull out of my closet in the morning. Most of the time, I don't think they're worth photographing, so I guess another reason why there have been a lack of posts this summer. Hopefully with the changing season I'll feel more creative and inspired! Or I just need to turn to Pinterest more often.

Anyway, this is an outfit I wore perhaps last week to work. I mentioned last week how I didn't like my black dress capris- they really didn't photograph well and it looked like I was wearing an ill-fitting skirt. At least these capris are a lighter color and you can see there are 2 separate legs...

Also, notice the lovely tan lines on my feet from the sandals I wear all the time! haha :-P

Utility Vest

Hello friends~ happy Monday! I'm sorry I've been a bit MIA in terms of blogging/commenting/etc. I'm running out of data on my phone a lot sooner than expected this month, and we've had such nice weather that I'd rather be outside than on a computer! We are hoping to get internet at our house (finally!) in the next couple weeks, so hopefully it will make blogging a ton easier! (and allow us to binge watch new shows on Netflix...)

On to today's outfit post...

I've seen so many bloggers styling utility vests all year round! I've had my eye out for one for awhile now, but they are always sold out of my size in stores. Old Navy had a pretty good sale on them online a few weeks ago, but of course they were sold out in my size! I did the store check online, and it said an Old Navy about 20 minutes away from me *might* have one in stock. I called them, was on hold for forever, and they had one in stock! I actually think it was the last one in the store, because when I picked it up, I saw zero vests anywhere!

Vest: Old Navy
Shorts: Gap
Tank: Gap
Sandals: Target
Necklace: The Limited

I've already been pinning different outfits to wear my new vest with, and I can already tell it's going to be perfect all year round! I'm very excited for the pockets, because I can just throw whatever in them instead of carrying around a purse or trying to shove things in my pants pockets. They've come especially in handy during dog walks :)

And if you look in the next picture, you can see my streak of white hair! I'm not that fond of it; hubby thinks it's cool.

But, I will look just like Anna, Stacy London, and Rogue!

I've also been wearing this vest quite a few days since I got it last week. (okay... almost everyday) Here is the only other outfit photo I have. I wore it with my striped maxi and fun sandals to the movies:

And here is how I used to smile when I was 2....

Coral and white

Honestly, I feel like this outfit is only so-so, but in keeping real and staying true to by blog's name, I'm posting it anyway. I actually saw someone at the grocery store wearing a coral top, white cardigan, and black pants, and I decided to pull out some of my neglected pieces to recreate it.

Top: Old Navy
Capris: Maurices
Cardigan: Old Navy
Shoes: Payless
Necklace: Turn Style (thrifted)

I've had this top for a number of years now, and I don't know if it's because I'm into more looser tops now, but it's definitely not loose and I feel like if I have a big lunch, you'll know. Maybe it's time to donate this and find something in a similar color but more flowey, so I can eat all the burritos and cookies I want :)

I have a few pairs of dress capris and they are nice for summer at work, but I hate how they photograph! It looks like I'm wearing a really awkward skirt or something.

Actually, I think the only thing I really like from this outfit is my necklace! I got it a couple weeks ago during a local thrift store's summer clearance sale for $2.38! What the what! I think I got pretty lucky lately with thrifting :)

Green and Black

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend! I didn't do anything too exciting, but I did pick up our tickets for the Minnesota State Fair! It doesn't start for another couple of weeks, but if you're ever in MN at the end of August/early September and you want to try hundreds of fried foods on a stick, you should check it out! Apparently it's the second biggest state fair in the country, after Texas, which is pretty cool :)

Here is an outfit I wore last week to work:

 Dress: Target
Cardigan: American Eagle (old!)
Belt: off another dress
Shoes: Payless
Necklace: Farmer's Market

I really don't have much to say about this outfit! Pretty much speaks for itself :) But I think it's perfect for summer with the short sleeve cardigan and nude wedges (which I've been wearing a ton!)

I actually wear both the dress and cardigan quite often, but only the cardigan has made the blog one other time!

The $15 Outfit

You guys, this outfit was so cheap I pretty much stole it all! Like probably under $15 for this whole outfit! That doesn't even happen in real life.

Top (The Limited, from TJ Maxx): $5
Skirt (Liz Claiborne from Turn Style): $2.13
Shoes (American Eagle from Goodwill): $8? (I don't remember how much they were)
Earrings (Target- gift): $0

Total: $15.13

This skirt I recently got during one of my thrifting trips. One of the local thrift stores had 75% off their summer styles. This skirt was included and still had the original tags on it! Plus, it's definitely something I could wear into the fall and winter. That's always a plus for me when finding things during an end-of-season sale :)

These shoes I got at a random Goodwill in Texas when we were down there for a wedding last summer! I never have good luck finding shoes while thrifting, but these were hardly, if at all, worn! I love the yellow color, but the only downside to them is they are so chunky I can't drive in them, and have to bring them separately if I want to wear them to work. Oh well, the lengths we go through for fashion, right? :)

Black and White

There's something so classic and stylish about black and white, don't you think? I wore this to an anniversary party we went to recently. The dress code was casual, but I still wanted to look put together. I also decided to add a pop of teal with the necklace. Kind of gets lost in the pattern of the shirt, though. Oh well.

Top: H&M via Clothes Mentor
Capris: Denizen via Target
Sandals: Target (are you sick of these yet??)
Necklace: Farmers' Market booth

Maybe I'm reaching too far, but this outfit loosely reminds me of this pin:

And by loosely, I mean it's a black, printed top with white bottoms. But for some reason, I don't think I would have consciously put these two pieces together without looking at this pin first. I guess that's what Pinterest is all about, right? Getting inspiration even though you don't follow a pin to the T.

Here's another way I've worn this top (with the same sandals too... I swear I have more than one pair of sandals!):

Here are other ways I've worn my white capris:
