Travel Tuesday: Omaha Trip 2021, Part 2

Hi friends! Welcome to part 2 of my recap of our trip to Omaha, NE this past October. If you missed part 1, you can find it here!

This day we had a lot planned! We started with continental breakfast again at our hotel, then packed up and headed out to our first destination, the Durham Museum.

The Durham Museum is a really cool, art deco, old train station turned into museum. It has absolutely beautiful architecture! We had fun looking around the museum for a few hours. Although we were a bit disappointed there weren't more trains you could walk through like our Depot museum up in Duluth, MN. But it was still a really neat museum with some fun toys for the kids to play with and a really neat model train setup.

For lunch, we had been hoping to try out the Soda Fountain at the museum, but there was a very large line, so we decided to pass. (Next time though!) Instead, we went with a friend's recommendation and checked out Don & Millie's. It is a local fast food restaurant that serves 99 cent margaritas! Which were surprisingly strong! We all enjoyed our food and would definitely recommend it!

After lunch, we drove about half an hour out of downtown to visit the Holy Family Shrine. It is a beautiful chapel up on a hill, but it was VERY windy when we visited, so we couldn't explore the area as much as we would have wanted to. But we are glad we drove out there to see it in person.

Next, we drove back into Omaha to checkout Kenefick Park which has on display two Union Pacific trains. We were sad we couldn't go inside, but they were huge and very neat to see up close!

After the park, we were able to get a last-minute reservation to the Union Pacific Museum in Council Bluffs, IA. The museum is free, but you do need a time-specific reservation during the pandemic. That was a fun museum! Lots of hands-on activities the kids liked participating in.

By the time we were finished with this museum, it was dinner time and we were definitely tired from being out all day. We were debating going to a sit-down place for dinner, but decided instead on another local recommendation and got some Runza sandwiches to bring back to our hotel. They were really good rolls filled with ground beef, cabbage, and other additions. Just a nice low-key way to end our trip.

It looks messy but it was delicious!

Thankfully today was our departure day, because it poured down rain all day! I only took two (blurry) pictures today, but basically all we did was drive home and stop to get some lunch on the way. Nothing too exciting :)

Thank you for following along with our travels to Omaha! We loved it and plan on going back someday :) Lord willing, we have some other adventures planned for 2022, so make sure you keep an eye out for some more Travel Tuesday series in the New Year!
