July Spending

Um, can you all believe that July is almost over?? Which pretty much means that summer is almost over too :( But the Minnesota State Fair (which is awesome!) is at the end of August/early September, so I have that to look forward too, and that means our trip to Disney World/Universal Studios in October is coming soon too! It also means that it's time to link up with Fran to share our July spending.

1. Target Dress: 17.49
2. H&M Top (Clothes Mentor): 3.50
3. Merona Top (Clothes Mentor): 0.01 (yes, you read that right!)
4. Liz Claiborne Skirt (Turn Style): 2.13
5. Loft Shorts (Turn Style): 2.75
6. Loft Shorts (Turn Style): 2.75
7. Old Navy Boyfriend Cardigan: 9.87
8. Old Navy Shorts: 8.22

Total = $46.72

Not bad for 8 things! That averages out to a little less than $6 an item!

I did really good for most of the month and only got my maxi dress. But then all the thrift stores started having their summer sales: 75% off, buy one item at 50% off and get the second for a penny... but I got some good deals! The skirt even had the original tags on it, so I'd say that was a pretty good find! We are still having some pretty warm weather here, so hopefully I can get some good wear out of the shorts. The dress, skirt, tops, and cardigan are items that I can easily wear throughout the year too, even though some of them came from summer clearance sales.

How did you all do for your spending this month?

Not Your Mother's Beach Babe #NYMBeachBabe from Influenster

I recently joined Influenster and got my first Vox Box a few weeks ago! Inside were all these awesome products:

For this post, I'm going to focus on just the Not Your Mother's Beach Babe texturizing shampoo and conditioner.

I have naturally wavy hair and am in a constant battle to find the right way to style it wavy minus the frizz. I swear, my waves and frizz are like BFF's! Somedays I get it looking very cute, and others I try the same thing and it's frizz central going on. I'm always willing to try out new products for waves/curls, which is why I was super excited these products were in my #surfsupvoxbox!

I brought them on our Door County vacation and after I shampooed and conditioned my hair, I put a little bit of product in my hair (argon oil and a salt spray) and let it air dry. I have to tell you, I was pretty impressed by the results! I didn't get big waves, but soft waves that look like I just came back from the beach!

I think that these products will definitely find a permanent place in my journey to frizz-free waves and I'm excited to try out other products in this line!

If you're a curly/wavy haired girl, what are your favorite products to get a frizz-free look?

I received these products complimentary from Influenster in exchange for my reviews. All opinions are my own.

Coral and Black

The Clothes Mentor by me had their summer clearance sale over the weekend- aka get 50% off all clearance prices as well as buy one clearance at 50% off, get the second for a penny! What the what?? I probably could have gotten a lot more, but I ended up getting this H&M top for $3.50 and another black and tan printed top for a penny! Can't get better than that, unless it's free :)

Top: H&M (Clothes Mentor)
Shorts: The Limited
Sandals: Target
Necklace: Edith Marie

I wore this on the hottest day of the summer so far- 90's with a heat index in the 100's. Yuck. Needless to say I spent most of the day inside, or in my air conditioned car. Shorts and a breezy tee it is!

The Long and the Shorts of It

I don't know about you, but we've had a pretty decent heat wave this week (I suppose after our cold spell of weather in the 60's, it's time for some heat!) So I've pretty much been living in shorts all week! Which is good for this week, because Andi and Ginny have a shorts linkup all week!

Shorts: Old Navy
Top: The Limited
Jean Jacket: Old Navy
Sandals: TJ Maxx (Old!)
Earrings: Forever 21

I actually got these shorts yesterday, haha :) I had some rewards I wanted to use plus the stuff and save sale was going on. I've been looking for some white shorts for awhile, but most of what I find are either way too short or way too see-through. Old Navy had a ton of white shorts all on clearance! They have the 5-inch inseam, which I like, and they ended up being under $10!

Honestly, now is the best time to get shorts/summer clothes, because all the stores have back-to-school/fall styles so they are putting everything summer related on clearance, and you still have a few months of nice weather left to enjoy them!

Recaps and Stripes

I wanted to start off today's post by thanking everyone who joined Ada and I in our Budget Babes link-up last week! We had over 50 link-ups, which is pretty awesome! The link-up is still open today and tomorrow, so make sure you link-up some of your favorite budget, summer trends looks!

I also wanted to share some of my favorite looks Ada and I put together last week. My favorites from Ada were her Midi Skirt look and her Gladiator Sandals look.

I just can't get enough of that striped skirt (and she paired it with one of my favorite colors!) and the dress she wore with her gladiator sandals is such a gorgeous color and great for the warmer summer weather!

I think it's kind of funny, my favorite looks are both my least expensive (maxi dress) and most expensive (midi dress) outfits!

I really like how I thought outside of the box in styling my maxi skirt as a dress, and I really like my hair in both pictures :) haha

And now for today's outfit, I pulled out my new striped dress from Target again, and put a cardigan over it to wear to church last Sunday.

 Dress: Target
Wedges: Target
Cardigan: Old Navy
Earrings: Etsy

Hubby wanted to know why I did my hair so fancy :) I said it's not. It's just a bun on the side of my head. That is all. (Although, that is how my wedding hair was!)

Haha I love the look I'm giving in this picture:

Here is the other way I've styled this dress so far, when we were on vacation in Door County:

Budget Babes: Gladiator Sandals

I'm teaming up with the sweet Ada of Elegance & Mommyhood to bring to you our budget-conscious trends for summer! The whole idea is to show you how you can try out all the in-fashion trends without breaking the bank to do so. Each of our pieces this week is $20 or under, with our total outfit price not exceeding $75.

Today's trend is gladiator sandals. You can get them more simple with a few straps that only come up to your ankle, or you can get crazy with a 'cage' that goes all the way up to your knee! I'll admit, I wasn't crazy about this trend when it first came out, but I love the sandals I found at Payless during their bogo sale!

Gladiator Sandals (Payless): $14.55
Teal Dress (Target): $25 (?)
Earrings/Bracelet (Gift): $0

Total = $39.55

I love the coral color and that they're a more 'simplified' version of other styles you see out there. Since they have more going on than your traditional sandal, I kept things simple with a coral bracelet and earrings, and wore a complimentary teal dress. Perfect and simple for a warm summer day!

Apparently great minds think alike when it comes to styling our gladiator sandals with bright, summery dresses! I really love Ada's pink dress with the metallic sandals that play off the detailing in the straps of her dress. Super cute!

Now it's your turn to show us your budget gladiator sandals look! The link-up is below and will run through the 23rd at midnight CST, so you have plenty of time to link up all of this week's looks.

We would please ask that you follow both Ada and I on Bloglovin' so you can keep up with each of this week's trends.

Budget Babes: Midi Dress

You should know the drill by now, but just in case you're just joining us this week, I'm teaming up with the sweet Ada of Elegance & Mommyhood to bring to you our budget-conscious trends for summer! The whole idea is to show you how you can try out all the in-fashion trends without breaking the bank to do so. Each of our pieces this week is $20 or under, with our total outfit price not exceeding $75.

Does this dress look familiar?? It is the same aztec maxi skirt I wore here and here! I did this for two reasons. One, because I actually don't own any midi skirts/dresses! I was thinking of the dress I got from eShatki, but I technically ordered it shortened to my knees, so that wouldn't count. Second, I wanted to show you how you can try out trends without actually having to go out and invest in a whole new piece for your wardrobe! Just hike it up a bit, add a belt to create more shape, and you're good to go! Sneaky sneaky ;)

Dress/Skirt (Target): $14.39
Jean Jacket (Old Navy): $35 (?)
Nude Wedges (Payless): $5.05
Belt (off another dress): $0
Necklace (Farmers' Market Stand): $10
Bracelets (Target): $7.50
Earrings (Target): $1

Total = $72.94 (Came close to the $75 this time!)

I don't really have much else to say about this outfit, other than the fact that I've pretty much been wearing these shoes every day this summer! They are super comfortable and pretty much go with anything. Payless for the win!

And how cute does Ada look in her striped skirt? I'm all about stripes lately- tops, dresses, skirts... I love her skirt paired with the teal top and fun necklace. Perfect for a date night!

Now it's your turn to show us your budget midi looks! The link-up is below and will run through the 23rd at midnight CST, so you have plenty of time to link up all of this week's looks.

We would please ask that you follow both Ada and I on Bloglovin' so you can keep up with each of this week's trends.

Budget Babes: Graphic Tee

I'm teaming up with Ada of Elegance & Mommyhood to bring to you our budget-conscious trends for summer! The whole idea is to show you how you can try out all the in-fashion trends without breaking the bank to do so. Each of our pieces this week is $20 or under, with our total outfit price not exceeding $75.

The graphic tee. Something I'm sure you're seeing everywhere lately! You can dress it up or down; something that gives a fun pop to an otherwise plain t-shirt.

Shirt (Old Navy): $6.88
Skirt (Old Navy-Old!): $15 (?)
Wedges (Payless): $5.05
Necklace (gift): $0
Bracelets (Target): $7.50
Earrings (Target): $1 (? came from a set)

Total = $35.43

I don't know why I had such trouble styling this shirt. I originally thought of this outfit, then decided to take pictures wearing jeans and a cardigan. Then I thought, no, I'm a style blogger for heaven's sake, let's get more creative. So I decided to try it with this old skirt from Old Navy (which the full look is coming back around anyway). I added an extra pop with my necklace, oh, and I tried styling it with a cat too...

(but we got her for free so it didn't add to the price of my outfit... haha am I a terrible person now for saying that??)

Also, sorry for looking like I'm a walking zombie. It was almost 10 pm one night and I remembered that I needed to take these pictures now (!) because we left for our trip the next day... All for the love of blogging!

I love how Ada and I styled our graphic tees similarly with a neutral skirt. I think she looks ready to run some errands or chase after her adorable daughter, Vivian!

Now it's your turn to show us your budget graphic tee looks! The link-up is below and will run through the 23rd at midnight CST, so you have plenty of time to link up all of this week's looks.

Budget Babes: Statement Necklace

I'm teaming up with Ada of Elegance & Mommyhood to bring to you our budget-conscious trends for summer! The whole idea is to show you how you can try out all the in-fashion trends without breaking the bank to do so. Each of our pieces this week is $20 or under, with our total outfit price not exceeding $75.

Today's trendy item is the statement necklace. I was kind of late getting onto the bandwagon on these, but I love them now! Definitely give a fun pop to any outfit! This was kind of hard to figure out what to wear with it, but I pulled out one of my favorite color schemes for summer, teal and white, and I think it turned out really well, don't you think?

Teal Tank (Thred-up): $8.66
White Capris (Target): $24.99
Black Tank (Target): $2.80
Gold Flats (Old Navy): $6.73
Pink Statement Necklace (Edith Marie): $9.14
Earrings (Target): $1

Total = $53.32

I got this necklace from Edith Marie which is an awesome site to find trendy and affordable pieces! A good portion of their jewelry is under $20, and a lot is even under $10! To me, that's a great way to try out different jewelry trends without breaking the bank!

I think Ada's outfit is really fun! I love her use of pattern mixing with the striped shorts and printed top, and I like how her statement necklace not only has some of the same colors in other parts of her outfit, but brings in other fun pops as well!

Now it's your turn to show us your budget statement necklace look! The link-up is below and will run through the 23rd at midnight CST, so you have plenty of time to link up all of this week's looks.

We would please ask that you follow both Ada and I on Bloglovin' so you can keep up with each of this week's trends.
