Travel Tuesday: Door County Favorites, Part 2

Happy Tuesday, friends! In my last Travel Tuesday post, I shared some of our favorite food places to go to in Door County, Wisconsin. Today, I will be continuing our list with some of our favorite activities and things to do! So please sit back, relax, and enjoy some travel inspiration!

Wood Orchard Market is one of our favorite stores to visit every year. They have baked goods, canned goods, and lots of other retail merchandise. And you can't forget the free cider pops for the kids! We love to stock up on cherry salsa for the upcoming year, as well as other treats like cherry strudel and chocolate covered dried cherries. Yum! There's also a fun playground for the kids when they get tired of shopping ;)

One of our yearly hauls. This is just a sample of the variety they have!

Northern Sky Theatre is a very unique production company. They have their main theatre outdoors in the middle of Peninsula State Park and write completely original musicals set in Door County! They are so talented and put on amazing shows! They weren't able to perform last year due to the pandemic, so we were so thankful that we were able to return this year to see their amazing production! This is definitely a highlight of each trip!

This year hubby, I, my sister-in-law, and brother-in-law were able to sneak away to a show while the grandparents watched the kiddos :)

Sevastopol FFA Dairy Breakfast

Unfortunately, this event hasn't been able to be held this year or last, but this is such a fun one we try to get to every year! The FFA puts on a big pancake breakfast on a local dairy farm on a Sunday near the 4th of July and probably thousands of people attend each year! The farm is then open for you to walk around and explore; my son has loved seeing the all tractors and cows!

They cook eggs in these huge skillets!

Sometimes they have their seating inside an empty barn

From 2013- they usually have a petting zoo for the kids (or kids at heart 😉)

2019- they have ice cream to finish off your breakfast ;)

4th of July Activities

Aside from my first trip there, we have planned our trips around the 4th of July every year since 2013! There are a ton of activities all over the peninsula, but the 2 main things we like to do are see fireworks and go to the local parade.

The town of Egg Harbor always does a great fireworks show the night before the 4th, which we try to see every year. Sturgeon Bay has theirs on the night of the 4th and it's fun to sit right on the water and watch them go off! This was my daughter's first year to see fireworks and she absolutely loved them!

Waiting for the fireworks to start is hard work ;)

Glow sticks are mandatory entertainment!

And a throwback to my son's first time seeing fireworks in 2017. It's fun to have these to compare :)

Egg Harbor also has a parade on the 4th of July in the afternoon. We always get there early to stake out our spots in the shade just on the outside of town (it gets SUPER hot otherwise) and then the "kids" walk into town so we can get our Chickachinos :) Again (theme of the trip), it was my daughter's first time to see a parade. She loved it too! She kept waving to everyone passing by and didn't hesitate picking up candy ;)

Cool girl is waiting (she LOVES wearing sunglasses!)

Is it finally coming??

They were eating it all up! My son would sweetly leave some candy on the ground for my daughter to pick up :) He is just the sweetest with her!

We also try to spend lots of time at the beach if the weather allows. It is usually very cool and windy there, but the last couple years have been warmer, so we've been able to play on the beach and get in the water a bit (although Lake Michigan water is still very cold!). It's always so relaxing sitting on the beach and listening to the sounds of the waves!

The kids were having fun "catching" the dead fish on the beach...

My son was so much braver with the water this year than last!

Well, I hope you all enjoyed this look into one of our favorite places! I enjoyed sharing with you and looking back on past trips! Make sure you keep following along- I've got lots more fun content coming your way :)

And a big THANK YOU to everyone who has been following along on my blog reboot! I truly appreciate each and every one of you!

  2. Another fun Travel Tuesday post, friend! How awesome that you and your hubby and your in-laws were able to go see a fun production while the grandparents enjoyed time with the kiddos. Sounds like a win/win for everyone involved. :) I love all the firework, parade, and beach pics! You have such an adorable family!
